âDonât you blame them, Bigfoot!â Mrs Duffy shouted.
âDonât call me Bigfoot!â
This went on for quite a few minutes, Reader. More things were said. A grown man cried. The police were called.
George climbed onto the roof and sat down alongside Jasper who stood adjusting the telescope, peering through the eyepiece. The roof slates chilled his bottom.
âI need to find the ingredients that turned Karl into a lizard, but I canât remember any of them. Not a single one.â
âYes, that is quite a pickle,â Jasper said, peering through the telescope. âWhy donât you just tell her that you fancy her?â
âJasper, are you paying any attention whatsoever?â
âSure I am. You fancy Ms Smith.â
âWhat? No, Jasper, I donât!â
âIâve seen how you look at her.â
âJasper, weâre getting off the point here. Iâm talking about Karl. Iâve got to find out how I turned him into a lizard.â
âI remember a long, long time ago, when I was your age, Georgie, I was at a really very entertaining show.â
âWhat does this have to do with anything?â George rolled his eyes.
âThere was this guy, a hypnotist, and he was absolutely brilliant!â Jasper continued. âHe had my grandad on stage. He got him doing all sorts of mad things, like clucking like a chicken, or eating like a pig from a trough, or singing the Albanian national anthem.â
âHow do you know he was singing the Albanian national anthem?â
âHow do you mean? The hypnotist told him to sing it, and so he did.â
âYes, but was there anyone in the room who could confirm that your grandad was actually singing the Albanian national anthem and not just making it up?â
Jasper considered this point, but quickly brushed it away.
âThe point is, Georgie, my grandad was able to access information that the hypnotist knew was stored deep inside his brain.â
George stared blankly at Jasper.
âGeorgie, I am going to help you sing the Albanian national anthem.â
